In the season 2 opening of The Tourist, I created the concept, matte painting and projection setup for this opening shot. We had to integrate into the incredible drone footage of the real cliffside, but augment it to make sure the island looked self contained by the end. We had to also indicate other elements from other episodes, like another cliff edge screen left and a forest of trees that would be seen in another episode. The trees had to parallax and were created as separate painted elements on individually placed cards so they would parallax correctly.
In this second shot, I approached the static matte painting in trying to find the right balance of cliff texture between other island shots and the set that was built.
