WENDELL & WILD

TYPE: ANIMATION

COMPANY: NETFLIX

YEAR: 2022

ROLE: VFX SUPERVISOR & MATTE PAINTING SUPERVISOR

I joined Wendell & Wild as the Matte Painting Supervisor late into production, and soon after stepped in to replace the VFX Supervisor who had to roll off the show. In those last 6 months, I lead the team to deliver more than 1300 out of the over 1500 shots in the movie.

Along with our mighty internal team, we were able to complete this work with help from our vendors at Windmill Lane, FuseFX, Distillery VFX, One of Us, Midas VFX, Firebrand VFX, Outlanders VFX, Labyrinth and Track VFX.

Given our small crew and tight deadline, I had the amazing opportunity to wear many hats on the show. Some of my tasks included everything from supervising, to matte painting, compositing, 3d environments, shot de-bugging, paintovers, tech checking and everything in between. Above you’ll see some of the finished matte paintings I had in the film, and below is a highlight reel of some of the shots I had a direct hand in creating.

I found it helpful to be able to communicate with external teams by digging into my painting toolset and using drawovers and quick sketches. Below is a example gallery of quick paint-overs that I would make to communicate creative or continuity notes for our vendors.

Check out some of the breakdowns by the other vendors I worked with below:
